Welcome Monday! Farewell My Queen

Monday morning and I am getting back into my groove, I guess that is a good thing considering it is the 9th of January. I always have a difficult time leaving the holidays behind and I drag my feet begrudgingly into the new year.  I think it is because I love Fall and Winter, not the cold and the snow, but the warm, cosy feeling I get from the sun setting early and the pace of life seeming to slow down. I find myself moving at a slower pace and accomplishing so much more when I am in my Winter "hibernation."  The New Year to me signals that Summer is not far behind and frankly I am not a fan of Summer in the South.

Did you watch Downton Abby? I did and I loved it! What did you think? I cannot wait for next week.

Speaking of waiting, I am anxious for the movie Farewell My Queen. The book written by Chantal Thomas  has been made into a movie which will be making its debut with Diane Kruger as Marie Antoinette, on February 9th at the Berlin Film Festival.

Are you familiar with this book? I personally loved it, but I have read other mixed reviews. I am a lover of French history; Louis the XVI, Madame de Pompadour, Madame de Barry are favorites and of course Marie Antoinette. Farewell My Queen tells the story of Madame Agathe-Sidonie Laborde, whose job was to read aloud to the Queen, twenty one years after the French Revolution as she recounts the events of July 14 and 15, and 16, 1789 at Versailles. The book is rich in details about life at Versailles including the beautiful opulence and the dirty rat infested reality.

The movie is directed by Benoit Jacquot and stars Diane Kruger as Marie Antoinette and Lea Seydoux as Agathe-Sidonie Laborde. If the images below are any indication of the beauty of the film I think I am really going to enjoy it. After all, who doesn't love a beautiful period drama set at Versailles during one of the most opulent times in  history?

I hope you have a great day!

  1. So glad you are feeling better! I haven't read Farewell my queen but my old book club did and one friend recommended it, the other didn't care for it. Will get around to it at some point but it will have to take a place in line since I have four or five books on my nightstand patiently waiting their turn:)
Watched about 40 min of Downton Abbey, and loved it if not just for the amazing house, grounds, furnishings and costumes! I need to really read up on the plot, characters,etc...to understand the full picture. Feel good!

  6. Hello Elizabeth
It has not felt like winter here in UK. No snow or frost and very mild conditions are confusing the wildlife. We have had some dreadful gale force winds though with electric cut off and trees down.
I am so glad you are enjoying Downon Abbey. The Christmas special is worth the wait :)
I have not read the book you mention although I have got behind with my reading lately. I will look out for the movie though.
Thank you for your visit and comments, and I am so pleased you are feeling better. Abby xx
