Friday Favorites from The Sweetest Occasion, Romancing the Home, Jess Lively, The Polohouse and More

Good morning! Happy Friday! Whew, what a week. First my refrigerator stopped cooling, then the heat wouldn't come on, add in a dog with an ear infection and allergies, two repair men and life and I am worn out!

Weeks like these remind me that I have to s-l-o-w down, the year is speeding by and I feel as if I am missing my favorite parts. Can you believe that in a week it is November?

Although the week was busy I did manage to find more than a few favorites to share with you, everything from snacks, drinks, movies and more.

Image Romancing the Home

Susan at Romancing the Home featured a friends Fall garden and it is not only comfortable but beautiful. I would love to sit in front of the fireplace with a group of friends, a hot drink and perhaps some of these tasty Rosemary Almonds from Bette's Blues

For those of you who prefer something a little stronger to keep warm on a cool night, The Sweetest Occasion posted three Whisky Cocktails. 1. Black and Blue Manhattan from The Boys Club 2. Whiskey Sour from Yummy Supper 3Mixed Berry and Fig Old Fashioned from The Boys Club.

As I am going to try to slow down and enjoy the rest of the year, Jess Livelys ' post 10 Habits to be More Present was the perfect find this week.

Another great reminder to slow down and enjoy life, family and friends is the documentary, Life According to Sam, which premiered this week on HBO. The film features, Sam, one of 250 children in the world living with Progeria, a rare and fatal aging syndrome and his parents who are both doctors that have spent the last 11 years searching for a cure for their son. This movie is one of the best I have ever seen. It is life affirming and heartbreaking, a testament to determination, spirit and courage and living life one day at a time.

I mentioned last week that I am already in the Christmas mode. I like to have all of my gifts purchased, wrapped and mailed by December 1st, so that I can spend December baking, seeing The Christmas Carol and Nutcracker and just enjoying the holidays. So far so good.

One of my favorite gifts to give is books and this week there were several great finds, one of which is from the prolific writer and blogger Jannelle McCulloch. Provence and the Cote d'Azur is going to be released on December 1st, just in time for Christmas.

Janelle for those of you who are not familiar is the author of 18 books on design, gardening, travel and architecture as well as the author of the blog A Library of Design. One of my favorite books of her is Paris An Inspiring Tour of the City's Creative Heart.

If you are looking for a few new and beautiful decorating ideas for Christmas run out and purchase Midwest Living Magazine. Allison of The Polohouse and her warm, welcoming and wonderful home are featured this month. This is my favorite feature of all of the holiday magazines I have seen so far.

I laughed out loud at this cartoon which I saw on Weed Em & Reap

And for the technically challenged, like myself, a tutorial for a hovering Pin It button  featured on Sew Many Ways which I found through Stacy on South Shore Decorating. When I have a minute I am going to install this!

Once Upon A Chocolate Life

Last but not least, my new favorite drink, Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate. Easy and Delicious. Recipe on Once Upon a Chocolate Life.

I hope that you have a great weekend! Enjoy!

  1. More wonderful recommendations, thank you for sharing. I love the first photograph best though, is it your porch?
I am registered on the BYW course, and I'm really looking forward to it, i'm so glad we'll be fellow students.

  2. Good morning dear heart! You must be enjoying this season to the hilt; I know you prefer this time of year over all others, and you know what?I DO TOO.

Lovely images to inspire in moments of freedom and silence. HAPPY DAY! Anita

  3. I am loving every single thing about this post, Elizabeth! First off, your pictures are gorgeous...I want to hang out on your porch!! I am so excited about Janelle's new book - her Paris book is also one of my favorites. The HBO movie looks excellent and I need something to watch this weekend (other than baseball!) Isn't Alison's home stunning? My style exactly. And, then you had me on the floor with your "Pilates" cartoon...THAT is going on my personal facebook page. As much as I adore you, is it okay that I dislike you just a little because you are so organized about getting your shopping done so early? Just kidding, you will always be one of my all time favorite blogging people!!

Happy weekend filled with cooking, reading and shopping!! xoxo

  4. Hi Elizabeth, so sorry to hear about your fridge and your fur baby. That is stressful. Thanks for finding time for your wonderful Friday posts I loved it all but especially the Pilates cartoon. That's so me. I admire your Christmas spirit and organization because I'm someone who is still shopping a few days before Christmas. It's one of my personality quirks, I can never plan that far ahead it's too much for my pea brain. hahaha. Enjoy your weekend!

  5. It's certainly starting to feel like November.

Since I don't care for lattes... I'll take double portions on the pie. Especially if it's cherry.

  6. Saw the preview for Life according to Sam and my heart swelled....and I said its a movie I would love to have my kids sit down and watch as a family....looks like its going to be AMAZING. Wishing you a great weekend!

I too have had one of those weeks, plenty of good but a few "adventures and mishaps too"....lets hope we both have a nice RELAXING weekend!
