Summer Adventures

Good morning! I am sorry to be so scarce these last few weeks.  I have been enjoying my summer vacation and have been traveling since June 28th and ticking things off of my summer bucket list. This week I am home and my parents and niece are coming and I cannot wait.

We have lots of plans for the beach, shopping, spa and of course doing a little baking. I am anxious to try out a few new recipes using peaches and blueberries. These two fruits always remind me of summer because I spent many happy days picking peaches and blueberries with my grandmother, siblings, cousins and mom. As I type this I can taste the sweet peaches and feel the fuzz on my lips. I think I ate more than I put in the baskets but isn't that what summer is all about?

I hope that you have a fabulous weekend! Stay cool, and safe!

Summers Bounty

Summer time, summer time oh how I love summer. The long sunny days, the excuse to be lazy, adventures at the beach and of course fresh fruits and vegetables from the farm stand or farmers market.

Although I do not like to cook on a hot day I do not mind heating up the house to bake and if I can use up some things from the market all the better.

Here are a few of my farmers market finds and "go to" recipes for using them, including Vidalia Onion Tart, Tomatoes and Balsamic Glaze, Strawberries and Fresh Cream Filled Butter CakeVanilla Peach Coffee Cake and  Raspberry Sweet Tea.

Speaking of summers bounty these fabulous arrangements give new meaning to edible arrangements. Have you ever made arrangements out of vegetables?

I have not but THIS article in New England Home Magazine has inspired me to try a few things the next time I am at the market.

What are your favorite things to eat in the summer? Do you have any great recipes using the fresh fruits and veggies from your area? If so, please share!

Have a great day!

Summer Bucket List

Good morning! How are you? How is your summer going? Mine has been BUSY; lots of family, friends, road trips, vacations, adventures, and more. I will tell you later about a few of my trips to North Carolina, Wisconsin, Louisiana and all stops in between.

I cannot believe it is already the middle of July. Summer is almost over and I am beginning to feel like a kid that has to go back to school soon. So this week my mind is on my summer "bucket list." Did you make one?

I wrote down a few things I wanted to do at the beginning of summer and have been slowly ticking them off. Simple things like watching the fireworks, going on a picnic, spending lots of time at the beach, laying by the pool, spending afternoons reading, and taking a few road trips but I still have a few things to left to do.

I still want to:

Do a little stargazing
Make s'mores over a bon fire with my nieces and nephew
Visit a new place
Take in a few museums
Visit a few historical sights
Get to know my city better
Catch fireflies with the kids
Take up a new hobby
Attend an outdoor concert

What about you? Did you make a list of fun things you wanted to do this summer? How are you coming along on your list?

I plan on ticking off a few things this week and maybe you will too.

I hope that you have a great day!

Anchor's Away

Good morning! How are you? I hope that you had a fabulous and safe 4th of July weekend. I did, but I have to tell you that I was dragging yesterday. I needed another day to recuperate from all of the fun and the food.

Anchor Skirt from Dress Corilynn

This week my mind is on "Nautical Fashion"because lately I see it every where. Not only the stripes but the ships wheels and anchors as well. I perused Pinterest and here are a few of my favorite nautical inspired finds.

Friday Favorites from Talk of the House, You May Be Wandering, Grance Dorre, Kevin and Amanda and More

Good morning! Happy holiday weekend! I am so looking forward to this weekend; I love the fireworks, picnics and barbecues with family and friends and I love the lazy days. What are your plans? Will you be traveling, hosting guests or just relaxing?

As I mentioned we are having a party this weekend, and although the menu is set and the invites are sent I still have no idea what to do for decorations. Thankfully I found this great post 25 Tables: Inspiration for the 4th of July from Talk of the House and now have inspiration for my tables.
I am going to the fireworks and have never been able to take good photos. This year I think I may be successful after reading How to Take Firework Photos from Kevin and Amanda.

Image Fresh Family Meals

Supposedly there are people who do not like cookies, cakes and the like and they prefer their dessert in the form of fruit. I personally do not know anyone like that but if you do I think this Easy Flag Dessert by Family Fresh Meals is perfect for the holidays.

If you need party or barbecue ideas for the 4th of July weekend than check out my post  4th of July Party Ideas  from earlier in the week.

Summer is all about vacations and this Vacation Checklist from Sandy at You May Be Wandering is an excellent item to print out so that your vacation will be stress free.

This post about Friends by Grance Dorre has nothing to do with the holidays of summer but I loved it and think you might as well.

I hope that you have a wonderful and safe weekend. Happy 4th of July!

At this point I already know that I will be a making all of the desserts in this post because my family LOVES dessert and I love to bake them. In addition to the bars, brownies and cheesecakes, there will also be a banana cake which is my sisters favorite and a fabulous chocolate cake because that is my favorite.
