Friday Favorites from How Sweet It Is, About a Mom, Desire to Inspire, Vintage Contessa, Lost in Arles and More

Good morning! How was your week? I cannot believe it was only a 4 day week, it seemed like it went on forever.  The weather has been spectacular, we are still in the 90's and it has been sunny with zero humidity. I have a think that after this heat wave we are going to be feeling a lot more like Fall and I am ok with that. I want to break out my sweaters.

I cannot wait to start eating Fall food, pumpkin, butternut squash, apples and more. This salad made by How Sweet it Is is at the top of my list.

Fall Cobb Salad

As is this Fall Cobb Salad which I make all the time.

Pumpkin Pasta from About a Mom

And this Pumpkin Pasta from About a Mom too!

The world of blogging is a wonderful place, the people we meet become friends not only through their blogs but sometimes in real life as well. Last week the beautiful Ellie O'Connell of the blog Have Some Decorum lost her courageous battle with ALS and for many it felt as if we lost a best friend. Although I had only been reading Ellies' blog for a year, I loved her, her spunk, sense of adventure, lust for life and her stories. What I loved most about her was that she was real, in a world where so much is fake or conveyed as perfect with Ellie, it was as real as it gets, the good, bad and the ugly was portrayed on her blog.  Here are three tributes to Ellie that I absolutely loved.

The first written by the incredibly sweet and talented Heather of Lost in Arles who was a personal friend of Ellie.

The second a heartfelt tribute to an "imaginary friend" written by Maria of Chateau des Reves.

And the last written by the enchanting, Elizabeth from The Vintage Contessa. What a wonderful mark to have left on the world that people from all over the world, friends and strangers were drawn to you and loved you.

Last but not least, these Brownies Muffins from Once Upon A Chocolate Life are FABULOUS if I do say so myself. If you are looking for a rich, chocolatly muffin that is a cross between a brownie and a muffin than this is it!

I hope that you have a great weekend. Enjoy the last of the beautiful summer weather!

  1. Thank you for Château des Rêves, which is new to me. I loved Ellie's blog--I went back and read the entire thing and have started again. Lost in Arles and the Vintage Contessa are two class acts who turn good thoughts into actual, IRL good deeds. Talk about the power of the Internet.

  2. Good morning dear friend! Yes, La Contessa's tribute was a joyous celebration of a life and in the world of blogging, I have met so many caring people; this loss made me think of all of you with whom I've shared a bit of my life. Blessings to you, to all out there who take the time to share and care.

  3. I know of a couple of bloggers I follow who passed away, one of a heart attack, the other in a car accident.

The days following Labour Day always feel like they're taking forever.

  4. How terribly sad. And she looks so young too. I shall hop over and read about her.

  5. Oh Elizabeth, I am heartbroken this morning to read your post about Ellie - I didn't know! It is so awfully sad - La Contessa, Heather and Maria wrote lovely tributes to a beautiful person.

Sending you big hugs for a lovely weekend! xoxo

  6. Thank you for your loving tribute to Ellie. I would like to add Stephen's tribute to Ellie, at

  7. Hi Elizabeth... thanks for the links to the tributes for dear Ellie. I am going over to read them now. Have a good week. PS I am drooling over those chocolate muffins.

Thank you for coming to visit Pine Cones and Acorns. Your comments are greatly appreciated. Although I try to come to visit every blog that comments sometimes I just do not get the chance, but I do try to comment here.
