Just Curious...Do You Make New Years Resolutions?

Good morning! How is your week? Are you lucky enough to have the week off between Christmas and New Years? Or are you back to the grindstone this week and counting the days until the weekend and the start of 2017?

Typically around this time of the year people start contemplating New Years resolutions, out of all of those that make resolutions only 8% actually active them, most people give up by February. So I am curious, do you make resolutions? If so are you successful? If you are successful why? If you are not successful why do you think that you do not achieve your goals? Do you think you sabotage yourself?

I personally stopped making resolutions years ago, mainly because I made the same ones over and over, like loosing weight, going to the gym everyday, not eating junk food, etc and I never achieved them. Not because I did not have good intentions but because they were unrealistic.

For instance I really do not like to workout and I do not like the gym because I am too lazy to drive there, so after a few weeks I stopped going. Instead I decided a few years ago to work out more doing the things I liked, for instance taking long walks with my dogs, or alone or making a point of getting on my treadmill at home everyday.

I like food, especially comfort food and junk food so it was completely ridiculous for me to resolve to stop eating junk food. Instead I decided that I can eat whatever I want but it has to be in moderation and I have to eat well 80% of the time. For the most part I only eat junk or comfort food on the weekends or holidays.

I will not be making any resolutions this year but I am committed to making improvements in myself and my life. Small little tweaks that should help me to be healthier and happier are a better fit for me.

If you will be making a few resolutions, and need a little help to achieve them, maybe one of the 7 Secrets of People Who Keep Their New Years Resolutions will be helpful to you.

Or if you are on the fence about making a resolution or are undecided about what resolutions to make, here are 50 New Year's Resolution Ideas and How to Achieve Them.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and opinions. I always love hearing about what you think about my curious questions.

Have a great day!

  1. I learned way back in my early 20s that a marked point in time, December 31, was not effective for me to change! So, since then, and on an ambiguous date, I decided I'd live the rest of my life in pursuit of better habits in my eating, goal making, from the last day of 2016 to January 1st, I simply hope to continue to be cognizant of making my life a good read.

  2. I sure love this opening quote Elizabeth, what a powerful reminder that each day is a new beginning for us. As for resolutions I'm with you. I don't really "make" specific ones either...for some of your same reasons. Although I do love the feeling of 'newness' and the invigorating sense of hope that comes with each January. As for New Year's Eve it's my most dreaded holiday, I always wake up with a sigh of relief on Jan 1st --that my kids and their friends got home safe and sound. Yikes I sound like a party-pooper don't I?

  3. we are twins! i make the same as you have, and break them yearly. at this age i have come to realize "it's not happening!"

  4. Oh, yes, I make resolutions. Every single year I VOW to lose weight. Long ago I vowed this & I didn't need to lose weight, I just thought I did. Now, I really really need to lose, once again, I'll make this resolution and start out strong !!! HAPPY NEW YEAR, my precious friend....

  5. I make plenty of resolutions, dear Elizabeth. I never keep them past the first day, though. Hope you have a wonderful New Year!
