10 Ideas for Labor Day Entertaining Ideas

Good morning. I hope that you are having a good week. I am glued to the TV trying to keep up with what is happening in Houston. To say that I am heartsick is putting it mildly. There are so many people suffering and displaced from their homes and it just seems as if it keeps getting worse by the day. Please keep all of these people in your prayers, they need them now more than ever. And if you can donate please do.

Endless Summer Finds

I love Fall, but I have to tell you that football, pumpkins, and Halloween candy in August is just not right. Summer is actually not over until September 22nd so don't put your shorts away just yet. Enjoy a little of the hot sun and down time before the long winter sets in.
If you are still enjoying summer and I hope that you are here are some fun finds from Kohls. I have never really shopped at Kohls until a friend told me about their sales. So when our friends were here for a week at the beach I purchased 10 beach towels for the price that I would have paid for 3 if paying full price and that included shipping charges.

I found a few endless summer items that you might like to use this year or to stock up for next year.

Please continue to pray for all of the people in Texas and Louisiana who are being impacted by this devastating weather. My thoughts and prayers are with them. If you would like to help you can contact the Red Cross.

By the way if you life in that area they are looking for qualified medical help and of course people with boats to aid in the rescue efforts.

For those of you on the East Coast,  get ready for the Tropical Storm coming your way. There is going to be a lot of rain and wind so please be safe and stay out of flooded areas.

Have a good day.

Beets, Bacon and Blue Cheese Salad

Utensils are English Vintage Silver plate/Similar Utensils Found Herenapkins here

Good morning, or should I just say, morning? I am sure that for the many who are suffering in Texas it is not a good morning, unless you count the fact that they are alive. I am one of those people that is glued to the TV when there is an "event" either natural disaster or whatever. I live and have lived in a hurricane zone for the last 17 years so weather events are important to me.

My heart is broken for those who are suffering and I hope that the rain stops soon so that they can all go home and assess the damage and move forward.

Salad PlatePlatter

The weather here is still hot so my mind has not switched to Fall food, like anything including pumpkin,  but don't worry my self imposed moratorium will be over September 1st.

This week I made a scrumptious Beet, Blue Cheese, Bacon Salad. Those are the main ingredients, it also had oranges, red cabbage and pecans and I have to tell you that although the combination might seem a little strange it is delicious, a little sweet, a little crunchy, a little salty and and a little bit sour from the citrus. I made a simple vinaigrette  from my homemade red wine vinegar but you could use any dressing that you like.

Napkins Here

Beets, Bacon, Blue Cheese & More Salad

6-8 cups romaine lettuce, spinach or spring mix
6 strips of bacon cooked crisp and chopped
1 orange cut into pieces
1/3 cup chopped pecans
8-10 small beets roasted and cut into pieces
6 ounces blue cheese crumbled
1/2-3/4 cup chopped red cabbage

Arrange lettuce, or spinach on a platter or a bowl. Then add the bacon, orange pieces, pecans, beets, blue cheese and cabbage. You can arrange it is symmetrical lines or you can just pile it up in the bowl and mix. Add your favorite vinaigrette or dressing of your choice and enjoy.

I hope that you have a good day wherever you are. To those in Texas my thoughts and prayers are with you and I hope that you are safe.

Sly As a Fox Fun Finds

Good morning! I hope that if you are in the path of the hurricane that you are safe. I am thinking about you and hoping that all goes well for you. Having lived the last 16 years in hurricane zones I can tell you that I know and feel your pain. The uncertainty is stressful and the storms even more so.

Image from The Bearfoot Baker Aren't these the cutest?

Here is a little levity for you this morning. A few "fun finds" for Fall that are all about foxes. These cute little furry creatures are everywhere this year. From purses to sweaters, to socks and the cutest fox cupcakes from The Bearfoot Baker. I cannot wait to make these!

What do you think? Are you willing to go out on a fashion limb and add a little fox to your wardrobe? I certainly could be persuaded to wear any of the Gucci Handbags or the embroidered fox flats. Honestly, I like to add a little whimsy to my wardrobe and these little guys would be just the ticket.

Have a great day!

Friday Favorites from Taste of France, Mark & Angel Hack Life, Blahnik Baker and More

Good morning and a very happy Friday to you. It is going to be a beautiful weekend here, sunny, slight breeze and high 80's. Perfect weather for relaxing and hopefully sitting at the ocean.

Korean Beef Tacos from Natasha's Kitchen

I have made these Korean Beef Tacos from Natasha's Kitchen 4 times and they are fabulous, fresh, spicy, sweet and more. If you are in a hurry you could make these with ground beef as well and they are just as good. The crunchy cabbage, cilantro and the creamy Sriracha sauce is a a delicious and interesting combination.

Image Blahnik Baker

Doesn't this  Coconut Banana Cream Pie from Blahnik Baker look scrumptious? I have made coconut cream pies and banana cream pies but have never made a combination, have you?

Image Wikepedia

Have you ever watched a movie that days later you cannot stop thinking about? I watched one this week, it is called Amour and it is about two a couple who are retired music teachers, that wife suffers a stroke and the husband takes care of her. I don't want to tell you any more because it really has to be watched. By the way its French so there are subtitles.

Image Taste of France

Speaking of being moved, this post by Taste of France is so beautifully written and moving I have gone back to read it more than once. It is about her parents and their care in the home they lived in at the end of their lives. I can only hope that I have this sort of care.

Are you book lover? A Francophile? Than you will enjoy this reading list from My Little Paris that takes your favorite author, for example Jane Austen and recommends a French book based upon that. It is really quite clever and offers you an opportunity to expand your reading repertoire.

Great article, 10 Things to Remember When Everything Seems Out of Reach.

Did you watch, read, make or do anything interesting this week that you would like to share? If so I would love to hear about it.

I hope that you have a fabulous week. Stay safe if you are in Texas!

Farmhouse Charm

Good morning! I hope that your week is going well, if it is not going according to your plans the good news is that tomorrow is Friday!
The weather here has been brutal, 95, 97, and 93 so far, this week,  add in the 100% humidity and it feels a lot hotter. Needless to say my mind is at the beach, in the sun and on bbq's, not candy corns and trick or treat.

Image Farmhouse 5540

That said as I was perusing Pinterest  the other day I fell in love with this pin and consequently the blog it came from Farmhouse 5540.

I personally love a beautiful farmhouse, in my imagination I see a 2 story white clapboard house in the middle of a few acres with a little orchard off to one side. I image the house having a wrap around porch on the first floor and off onside of the second floor another porch for sleeping on hot summer days.

Image from Dreamy Whites

I imagine a beautiful, but hardworking kitchen with a dark blue Aga stove, white ironstone pitchers filled with wooden spoons, and a freshly baked cake on a cake stand handed down from one generation to the next.

Image Golden Boys & Me

Just across from the open kitchen is a keeping room with two comfy chairs set in front of a roaring fire and a small table to the side of each to hold steaming mugs of hot cocoa and books while watching mom prepare dinner.

Image The Design Twins

I personally love farmhouse details and have a lot in my own kitchen, the collected spoons in pitchers, vintage mortar and pestles, dough bowls and cutting boards that tell a story each time you use them, if you stop to listen.

Are you a fan of farmhouse charm? If so and you are looking to add a bit to your home here are a few of my favorite finds from this week.

I hope that you have a great day!

Avocado Protein Toast Breakfast

Good morning! I am not a morning person but I am up at at it every morning walking my pups 3 miles before I go to hot yoga. Typically I do not like breakfast unless it's a donut. Obviously a donut a day does not keep the doctor away so I have taken to eating a high protein breakfast of eggs. Sometime just scrabbled but often times on a sandwich.

My favorite sandwich is avocado on sprouted bread with scrambled eggs, tomatoes, pickled onions and a sprinkling of chia, sunflower and flax seeds.

My husband prefers his a bit more plain with a fried egg, toast and avocado. You can also make hard boiled or poached eggs, and if your are a vegan or vegetarian you can skip the egg and add humus, or you can add chickpeas to the avocado and slather it on the toast and then add a sprinkling of nuts.

Do you eat breakfast? Have you jumped on the avocado toast train? If so what is your favorite topping? And if not, what is your favorite breakfast, cereal with milk, oatmeal, eggs, bacon and toast or something sweet like a donut or a Pop Tart?

Have a fabulous day!

Lollia by Margot Elena

Good morning! I am not really a make-up girl but I love perfume , hand lotion, sweet smelling soap and beautiful candles. And one of my favorite brands is Lollia by Margot Elena. I believe I first discovered it at the treasure trove of stores Anthropologie

Image Anthropologie

The perfumes are for the most part light, sweet, floral and long lasting, at least the ones that I like are. One of my favorites in Classic Petal and another is Cabbage Rose and Citrus which I do not believe they make anymore. I also like 19 Breathe, with peonies, white lilies and citrus.

If hand cream is your favorite they make those as well, most to compliment the perfume.

Soaps too!

And last but not least fragrant candles to brighten a gloomy day or to just add a hint of refreshing scent to your bedroom, bath or wherever you burn it!

Are you a fan of Lollia? Do you have a favorite scent?

Set Here

I just purchased this set at a great price, for gift and I will let you know how it is.

Have a beautiful day. It is going to be a scorcher here, 103 with the heat index! I know that I said I was going to savor summer but I would savor it a little more if it wash;t so hot and sticky.

Eclipse Mania 2017

Good morning! Today is the day, #Eclipse2017, a once in a lifetime show in which  all of America will experience a solar eclipse. If you are in its path you will see a total solar eclipse(from Salem, OR to Charleston, SC), if you are outside of the path you will see a partial solar eclipse.  This is the first coast-to-coast full eclipse since 1918 so it is a big deal (99 years since the last one).

Image Here

In case you do not know what a solar eclipse is, it is when the moon passes between the Earth and sun and casts its shadow on the planet. Are you in the path of  the total eclipse? Do you have plans to stop and view it?

"For those within this band, some pretty magical things will take place should the weather cooperate. During totality, planets and stars will suddenly appear in the sky, crickets may start chirping, and birds will fall silent. The sun's corona (which features average temps of 1.8 million degrees Fahrenheit) will become visible, with tongues of fire potentially glimpsed at the edges."(Source Michael  D' Estries Mother Nature Network)

If you do not live where you can see the eclipse or do not feel like fighting the crowds, you can view it live HERE.

Make sure that if you are in the path of the eclipse that you take safety precautions, if you do not know how to safely view an eclipse please take a look at the NASA safety page

I hope that you have a fabulous day and good luck viewing the eclipse!

Busy Bee or Queen Bee

Bee Art

Good morning! I am fascinated by bee's, especially as the last few years they have been in the news a lot because of their declining numbers. In my area there has been a big push to educate people about bees and my local garden center has even been having bee talks to educate people on raising their own bees, and creating a bee friendly yard.

Image the Salish Sea Cottage

This summer I have been following Pamela of Salish Sea Cottage on Instagram and the ups and downs of her bee keeping adventure. I am fascinated by her progress as I had heard about the same bee house that she has and thought of getting one myself. Thankfully I have seen first hand what goes into raising bees and have now decided to leave it up to someone that has more knowledge than I do. I think I will just stick to the bee plantings in my yard and the items in my house.

Gold Bee

Wether you are a "busy bee" or a "Queen bee" here are some fun finds I discovered this week, including  accessoriesbath items, perfume and more.

If you are looking for some arta bee feederguest towelspillows or even your own bee hive starter kit I found some of those as well.

For those of you who would like to know all about bee's and why they are so important to our future check out these TED Talks and for interesting facts about bee's, check out this article from National Geographic. And last but not least, you can check out the Honey Bee Health Coalition for the Bee Nutrition and Innovation Award of $40,000: Making a difference can start with one bold idea. The Honey Bee Health Coalition is looking for creative, practical soluitons to accelerate and pioneer the field of honey bee nutrition. We want to hear from folks within the community and newcomers to the bee world – no beekeeping or research experience required!

Have a happy and safe weekend!

Friday Favorites from Closet Cooking, Joy the Baker, Nest by Tamara, Happy Nom Nom and More

Good morning. Another day another attack. It is so very sad that this is the new reality of the world. Growing up I remember hearing about these attacks in the Middle East(on one of 3 news stations) and being so afraid for the people who lived there. Nowadays, it seems as if there is something going on all of the time. If

Just Curious...How Do You Deal with Stress?

Good morning! I hope that you are having a good week. Thank goodness tomorrow is Friday. Between the crazy, non-stop bad news all over the world and things going on at home I am feeling a little, no make that a lot stressed this week. So I am curious, how do you deal with stress? Perhaps you have a few tips that I do not use that you would like to share?

I am not sure about you but when I am stressed I can usually find things during the day to occupy my time and distract me, but once the lights are out and I am left along with my thoughts my mind is like a whirly gig and I cannot turn it off. I will lay there for hours mulling over scenarios and solutions until I am so exhausted I finally fall asleep. Are you the same or does sleep off you solace from the stress?

Here are a 10 things that I try to do to cope with stress:

1. Take long walks
2. Take soothing baths
3. Call and talk to a friend
4. Go to the library or the bookstore and relax
5. Go to yoga class
6. Bake
7.Write in my journal
8. Go to church
9. Pray
10. TRY to accept what I cannot change. This is the hardest for me.

To be perfectly honest, sometimes these things work and sometimes they don't. Sometimes they work to help settle my mind for a little while and then sometimes not.

I have been a worrier and a fixer my whole life and as I age I have been trying to let things go and realize that not everything is mine to fix or to solve.  Easier said than done but I am making progress.

What about you? Are you a worrier? Do you have coping mechanisms for stress that work for you?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Have a great day.

Flamingo Finds for a Pop of Color and a Touch of Whimsy

Flamingos are everywhere this summer, in yard, in your house, on the walls. As I am making a point to focus on the remaining days of summer and not jump into Fall I thought it would be fun to look at how you can add a pop of color to your house this year or next year with these fun flamingo finds.

Image Pinterest via Etsy Shop mrsmcveyvintage

There are pillows for indoors or out, swizzle sticks for your next fruity drink, wash cloths for the bath or perhaps a mug for your morning coffee?

What do you think of the flamingo fad? Are you a fan? Have you decorated with a few of these bright pink birds this year. I have to admit that I do not have any flamingos in my decor but I love the flamingo pink dinnerware and could see myself using it along with my white dishes and serving pieces to add a pop of color to my next party.

If you would like to add a little free Flamingo Art to your home check out this great tutorial from The Painted Hive.

Have happy, hopefully sunny, summer day!
