Tartan at Talbots!

Good morning and a Happy Halloween to you. I hope your week is going well, will you be heading out to "trick or treat" this evening? Or will you be staying home to give treats to the kiddies in their cute costumes?  I will be at yoga, not because I am a curmudgeon but because I live on a cul de sac and in the last 11 years we have never had 1 trick or treater. I did not even buy candy this year so I hope this is not the year I finally have a bunch of kiddies.

Glen Plaid Popover

Although Talbots is not a store that I frequently shop at, after seeing an Instagramer that I follow wearing a beautiful tartan scarf from them, I thought I would check their offerings this season. I am happy that I did because I found some great classic plaid/tartan pieces that I like and think you will too.

My 10 Favorite Fall Recipes

Good morning. I hope that you have a great weekend. Mine was busy but I did find time to relax and try out a few new recipes. I am not sure that I am going to put them into my "regular rotation" just yet because although they were good they were a bit complicated. In the Fall I love to bake but as far as cooking I like easy meals.

Today I am sharing 10 of my favorite fall recipes, lots of soups and salads and a few comfort food thrown in as well.

My heart is heavy today with the tragedy in Pittsburg and my thoughts and prayers are with all who lost their lives and their families.

I hope that you have a good day. Make sure that you let your friends and family know how much you love them.

Saturday Frinds

Good morning! I hope that you are relaxing a bit this morning, it is the weekend after all. It is always good to take it easy and rejuvenate on the weekend. I am enjoying a cup of cocoa and reading this book. Later I will be working a bit and then baking a few sweet treats. I will let you know how they turned out.

I found a few things this week that you might like .

Isn't this dress fabulous?  I think it would be beautiful at a Christmas party or perhaps a winter wedding.

I love the color red, especially red accents, scarfs, boots and bags, I think they make a great statement to your outfit. These red flats from Anthropologie would look beautiful with jeans, black cigarette pants and even a skirt.

If you need a set of Christmas dishes I think these Johnson Brothers, T'was the Night Before Christmas" are perfect!

Napkins

A great set of napkins  for the holiday season.

I think the easiest way to add a touch of the season to your house is with a candle. The smell of Christmas sounds perfect to me.

I love snowmen and these snowmen ornaments are perfect for my collection.

If you do not decorate a tree you might like this pillow instead?

This book is beautiful.(If you have Kindle Unlimited  you can read it for free). Or this book which is for adults and more serious.

Friday Favorites from Boulder Locavore, Honestly Yum, Jillian Harris and More

Good morning. I cannot believe that this is the last week of October that means we have 60 days left until Christmas. On the one hand it is a little scary and on the other hand, "it is the most wonderful time of the year" so let the fun begin!

I found some great things this week, I hope that you enjoy the links.

Interesting Food

Image Jillian Harris

Doesn't this Pumpkin Spice Steamer from Jillian Harris looks delicious? It is made with almond milk and coconut cream. I cannot wait to try it.

Next to pizza, anything meal that includes cheese is my favorite meal. The Ultimate Fondue Party fro Sugar and Charm is my kind of party

I love butternut squash but what a pain in the butt it is to peel, cut and roast. I try to buy it already cut at the store to save time but this past week they were out so I was forced to get zoodles. I have never had them before and they were perfect with browned butter and sage, we served them with pumpkin sausage which made them even better. I used this recipe from Boulder Locavore.

Image Honestly Yum

Oh my goodness this Halloween Candy Charcuterie Board from Honestly Yum is fabulous! I would love one of these at a party.

Isn't this ghost cake from Kanela and Lemon cute? This chocolate cake and four others are featured on my other blog Once Upon A Chocolate Life today

Here are some more Great Halloween Baked Treats if you need more ideas.

And 20 Halloween Cocktails

If you like caramel apples and do not feel like making your own you could order a few. I personally like to make my I always make too many and then eat them all. Never good if you are watching your caloric intake.

Easy costume idea, a Frequent Flyer.

Or my favorite,

I hope that you have a wonderful week and as always please share your finds, recipes and more.

Falling for Forest Green

Good morning. I hope that your week is going well. If you were the lucky winner of the lottery, congratulations. As for the rest of us, it's back to work. It has been a crazy week in the news and it has me feeling moody and wanting to hunker down in the safety of my home.

Image House Beautiful

I have always been drawn to dark, moody rooms, they remind me of the beautiful and comfortable country houses in the UK, and I think they look more cosy and comfy than a stark white pallet.

Image West Country Shutters

Doesn't this bath look like a wonderful place to while away an hour or two with a good book while soaking in this gorgeous copper tub? I might need a few more candles but otherwise I could easily soak in here every night.

Image

This snug little library is perfect. What more do you need than a comfortable couch and a wall of books?

Wallpaper Direct

If you are not a fan of a dark painted room you might enjoy a room decorated with this beautiful wallpaper instead?

Or perhaps you just like a touch of the green? If so you might prefer this room with two plush velvet sofas. I will admit I have never thought to pair dark green and grey but it is a beautiful combination.

Forest green is the perfect color to add a touch of the season to your house or wardrobe. At this time of year there is velvet ribbon for your packages, pillows for your favorite chair, candles  to cast a warm glow on your party,  and even boots to keep your feet warm.

   1. Enamelware Plate 2. Botanical Snowflake Napkins    3. Campfire Mug 4. Green Lanterns 5. Green Plaid Infinity Scarf  6. Green nail polish 7. Pine Wreath 8. Forest Wallpaper

I love to add a hint of green to my decor with a big pine wreath, garland for the fireplace and springs of holly cut from my trees tucked into my vintage green transfer-ware sugar bowl. And to my wardrobe I add as much black-watch plaid as I can, including my shoesscarfpj's and whatever else I can find, although not all at once.  It is my favorite way to add a touch of green to my wardrobe.

Are you a fan of forest or hunter green? Or do your prefer brighter, lighter colors? Share your favorite way to add a touch of this beautiful color to your holiday.

Have a great day.

Life Lately...October

The weather here has finally turned and at times it feels like Fall, typically in the early morning and late at night. I have been sleeping with the windows open and I love hearing the birds, and the Canadian geese in the morning. In the late afternoons I still sit on the front porch with a my latest book, or a pile of magazines, the difference is that I am now wearing a sweater and occasionally I have a cashmere throw on my lap. I am making gift lists for the upcoming holidays, lists of things I want to bake to give as gifts,  as well as, things to take to my neighbors and send to friends and family. I have been getting up early to take walks with my dogs and then watching the sunrise. It is so peaceful by the waters edge with only the fish jumping and the occasional duck flying by. Then I am off to hot yoga before returning home to start the day relaxed and ready to tackle whatever I have too. We are planning a few trips for 2019 to SpainIceland and back to Argentina to see our grandkids. The master bathroom remodel is finished and next week we are getting new French doors to the deck and and 2 rooms painted, a little refresh to the house after 10 years. It's the "most wonderful time of the year" in my little world and I am slowing down and trying to savor it.

What have you been up to lately? Whatever it is I hope that you have been enjoying it.

Have a great day.

Fun Finds of the Day:

T-shirt for "the most wonderful time of the year."

I recently found this candle at TJMAXX and it is earthy, woody and has a hint of sweetness.  A great candle if you do not like cloying, floral scents.

I think I may need these dachshund slippers from Land's End.
