Mad For Plaid: My Black Friday & Cyber Monday Buys

Passport Case JCrew

Good morning! How is your week? Mine has been cold and busy. The weather here is freezing, its 17 degrees below normal. Yesterday we had a new set of French doors installed in our family room, and the "door" was open for 3 hours. Obviously the house was a little chilly and got even more chilly because out heat downstairs won't work. Thankfully today technician is coming this morning and hopefully the heat will be back on when I return from yoga class, thankfully we have a fireplace!

The last few weeks everyone including me has been posting our finds, wants and buys for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. I did all of my shopping online and it has all arrived. I thought I would check in and let your know what I ordered, how I like. Some of the things were for me and some are for gifts.

This was my first time ordering from ASOS and I purchased two pairs of shoes,

Plaid Mules

this pair of mules and I LOVE THEM! I wear a size 8 US and I ordered both the 8 and the size 9, I kept the size 9 because the size 8 felt a little small. They are well made and very stylish.

Plaid Bow Shoes

I also ordered these plaid bow shoes which I also love, again I sized up!

Tartan Cotton shirt with Buttons Red

I ordered this shirt in all three plaids, the Stewart shown above

Red Plaid

this one in Red plaid which has not arrived yet.

Blackwatch Plaid shirt

And last but not least this blackwatch plaid. I love the two that arrived. That said, these are cotton shirts, think of it as a "classic white shirt" in tartan. They are soft, comfy and if you are not careful you might shrink them, so I would not dry them.

I ordered the slippers for a gift and they are nice, not sure of fit as they are not my size.

Sperry Boots

And these Sperry Boots, which were not on sale. They are cute and fit true to size.

Pocket Square

Great pocket square from Brooks Brothers.

Plaid Puffer Jacket  from Forever 21. Waiting for this to arrive.

Tartan Tote with an embroidered dachshund from Lands End

P.S. Just in case you want to make an "Advent Calendar" of 25 Books to read to your kids or grandkids I thought I would share a couple. Here is the first, Can You See What I See? The Night Before Christmas.

Those are my buys, what did you buy at the sales? If you found any great tartan things please let me know.

Have a great day!

10 Easy DIY Advent Calendars

Good morning! I hope your week is off to a great start. I have been having a hard time getting back into the grove this week after the long weekend. And it is freezing here, not literally but it is way below normal so that has me feeling sluggish as well.

I guess that is a good thing because now I can stay inside and start finalizing my Christmas decor, baking and more.

Lands End Needlepoint

I love Advent Calendars, we always had one growing up, did you? Some years we had the little wood ones with the doors that you opened and there were pieces of candy, other years we had wall hanging ones with pockets that had treats in them.

A few years ago I gave my grandkids one that is 25 little mittens on a string, they love getting up in the morning and getting their treat as they count down to Christmas. Today I  thought I would share 10 Easy DIY Calendars that you might like to make with your kids or grandkids.

Homemade Chocolate Chaud Mix

Good morning! We have survived Black Friday and Cyber Monday and now it is time to celebrate the holidays by making handmade and homemade gifts for family, friends, co-workers and neighbors.

I LOVE homemade and handmade gifts, they are the perfect gift to take to parties, place in gift baskets, add to a bottle of wine or champagne, and to send to friends and family.

Every year I make several boxes of homemade treats, including Amish Caramel CornFairy FoodSugar & Spice NutsSugar Cookies, Cinnamon StarsApricot Walnut Rugelach, among other treats for my family and friends that do not like to bake or simply do not have the time. This year I will be adding a few things to their boxes including the easiest gift ever, Homemade French Chocolate Chaud Mix.

I am not kidding you when I tell you that the hardest part of this gift is finding a great container to put it in. In my case I decided to use a locally made pottery jar. You could do the same or you could use a Weck jar, a canning jar or even a cellophane bag tied with twine

Chocolate Chaud Mix

Note: I used a combination of 65%85% chocolate, and 91% bars.

Place chocolate bars into food processor and pulse a few times until chocolate it chopped. Or if you do not have a food processor, roughly chop chocolate into small pieces.

Place piece of chopped chocolate into jars and add directions.

Chocolate Chaud

2 cups of milk
9 oz. chopped chocolate
1-2 tablespoons brown sugar(optional)

Heat the milk in a medium saucepan, once the milk is warm remove from heat. Add the chocolate and whisk until smooth and the chocolate is melted. Then return the pan to heat and cook at a very low boil for 2 -3 minutes, whisk constantly. Be careful so the mixture does not burn. Remove from heat, pour into glasses. Taste and add brown sugar if it is to strong. The chocolat chaud  tastes better as it ages, I like to make a large pitcher and then keep it in the refrigerator  and heat up a cup as needed.
