Friday Favorites from Salt & Baker, Creme de la Crumb, Wild, Wild Whisk and More

Happy Summer! Today is officially the first day of summer and this morning I will be doing 108 sun salutations at sunrise to celebrate, I have never done that many so I hope I make it.

I found a lot of great things this week so I hope that you find something you like.

I LOVE pizza and have my favorite take out place on speed dial but I also like to make it at home. Today I will be making Kale Pizza from Salt & Baker and

If you need a pizza dough recipe this one from the Foodess is excellent.

If you will be grilling your pizza you could also grill a few peaches and make this grilled peach salad from The Endless Meal

Doesn't this Deconstructed Shortcake from Wild Wild Whisk look like a great dessert to make this summer?

If you want a bigger project than this Strawberry Cake from All the Crumbs Please would be perfect for a party.

Interesting Articles/Blogs/Magazines

I recently discovered the blog Sincerely Loree and I love it.

It's Back! Styling by Coty Farquhar. If you are not familiar with this online magazine than you must check it out, it is fabulous!

The next two articles are interesting and frightening.

Books I'm Reading This Week

Lila Soto has a master’s degree that’s gathering dust, a work-obsessed husband, two kids, and lots of questions about how exactly she ended up here.
In their new city of Philadelphia, Lila’s husband, Sam, takes his job as a restaurant critic a little too seriously. To protect his professional credibility, he’s determined to remain anonymous. Soon his preoccupation with anonymity takes over their lives as he tries to limit the family’s contact with anyone who might have ties to the foodie world. Meanwhile, Lila craves adult conversation and some relief from the constraints of her homemaker role. With her patience wearing thin, she begins to question everything: her decision to get pregnant again, her break from her career, her marriage—even if leaving her ex-boyfriend was the right thing to do. As Sam becomes more and more fixated on keeping his identity secret, Lila begins to wonder if her own identity has completely disappeared—and what it will take to get it back.

On November 22, 1963, Jacqueline Kennedy accompanied her husband to Dallas dressed in a pink Chanel-style suit. Much of her wardrobe, including the pink suit, came from the New York boutique Chez Ninon where a young Irish immigrant named Kate worked behind the scenes to meticulously craft the memorable outfits.

Kate is torn between the glamorous world of Chez Ninon and her traditional Manhattan neighborhood. Finding balance is not easy in a time when women are still expected to follow the rules. And when you're in love, it's impossible.

Kelby's luxurious narrative gives fascinating insight into the real story behind the iconic pink suit, introducing the reader to the wildly unforgettable characters that made Jackie Kennedy into the fashion icon of the century.

Rose is disappointed with her life, though she has no reason to be - she has a beautiful family and a perfectly nice house in the suburbs. But to Rose, this ordinary life feels overshadowed by her other life - the one she leads every night in her dreams.

After a childhood accident, Rose's dreams take her to a wondrous island fraught with adventure. On this island, she has never been alone: she shares it with Hugo, a brave boy who's grown up with her into a hero of a man. But when Rose stumbles across Hugo in real life, both her real and dream worlds are changed forever. Here is the man who has shared all of her incredible adventures in impossible places, who grew up with her, even if they aren't what either one imagined. Their chance encounter begins a cascade of questions, lies, and a dangerous obsession that threatens to topple everything she knows. Is she willing to let go of everything she holds dear to understand their extraordinary connection? And will it lead her to discover who she truly wants to be?

Pizza remains America's favorite food, but one that many people hesitate to make at home. In Mastering Pizza, award-winning chef Marc Vetri tackles the topic with his trademark precision, making perfect pizza available to anyone. The recipes—gleaned from years spent researching recipes in Italy and perfecting them in America—have a variety of base doughs of different hydration levels, which allow home cooks to achieve the same results with a regular kitchen oven as they would with a professional pizza oven. The book covers popular standards like Margherita and Carbonara while also featuring unexpected toppings such as mussels and truffles—and even a dessert pizza made with Nutella. With transporting imagery from Italy and hardworking step-by-step photos to demystify the process, Mastering Pizza will help you make pizza as delicious as you find in Italy.

I love this eyelet dress from Anthropologie.

Beautiful Embroidered Sandals

I hope that you have a wonderful weekend and a beautiful start to summer. Please share your finds from this week, recipes, podcasts, books, movies and more. I love reading about what you discovered and found interesting.

  1. 108 Sun Salutations at sunrise?! Wow. You my friend never cease to amaze me. What a wonderful idea, how did you do? I have to say that I can't imagine doing 108 at this time, I miss my yoga body and all the strength I used to have...But I am beginning to come back to the mat. Slowly. With deep stretches and lots of pranayama.

  2. I've been hungry for pizza of late. Almost ordered one yesterday, but settled on eating a veggie burger for supper with my first tomato. Love eyelet on anything! Less fussy than lace, but an adornment.

  3. Thanks for the mention Elizabeth. That Strawberry cake looks delicious and I do love grilled peach salads. I would never have thought of adding peaches to a salad but I tried it once and loved it.

Thank you for coming to visit Pine Cones and Acorns. Your comments are greatly appreciated. Although I try to come to visit every blog that comments sometimes I just do not get the chance, but I do try to comment here.
