Life Lately

Good morning friends. How are you? I have to be honest, I am tired and overwhelmed. I also feel as if I live in an alternate universe to the one I see on the news. Let me explain, we've been "sheltering in place"(like everyone else), aside from walks everyday and 12 trips in over 90 days to the store for groceries I have not left my house. Of course we watch the news and I am on social media but yesterday I left the house to go further afield than the grocery store and was shocked to see on an LED sign that our town had a curfew? I had no idea becauseI haven't watched the local news, I've been riveted to on the news going on all over the country.

I don't feel as if I am getting any REAL news, I am getting the "spin" that each station puts on the news. Some stations focus on the rioting, others focus on the looting, still others focus on the peaceful protests, I haven't heard the name George Floyd mentioned in a few days.

It's no surprise that the Republicans and Democrats don't get along, but I keep thinking that no matter your political affiliation we all want to be better, to have a better country, to have a country free of racism. And yet...there has been no coming together. Wouldn't this be the perfect time to try to unite the country? Wouldn't this be the time to be an American, not an American Democrat or an American Republican? Where are the press conferences of both parties coming together to discuss change, and ways to fix the systemic problems in this country?

Instead we continue to see each party pushing their own agenda and criticizing the other party for whatever they are doing. Is this helping? I don't think so. I don't know the answer but I am pretty sure continued mud-slinging has zero effect on the problem or the issues.

As for social media, I did not think things could get any uglier or in my opinion hypocritical. As I said in my post yesterday, I do not want to be told what to do or how to do it and yesterday I saw over and over and over and over again the same "script" on so many pages,  a confession of white privilege, a declaration of how they are going to do better, and then lists of black artists, books, movies, and more to promote and follow. If you were a person that decided to use your own mind or skills to promote Black Lives Matter and Ending Racism, and did not follow this particular script,  the comments were hateful, spiteful and critical. The more followers and influence you have to more demands made on you and the more criticism, hate and vitriol. If you did something,  you were criticized for not doing it "right" if you did nothing you were ripped to shreds for being selfish, hateful, tone deaf and those were just the nice comments. More often than not the criticism was from white people not black.

I don't have the answers, I am stumbling along in life just like everyone else, I am doing the best I can to be a good person, to make my small world better and to help in any way that I  can. I only know that I have control over me, and I can only make changes in my life, how I view things, share things and live my life. I can offer suggestions and share information, what you do with it and how you use it is up to you.

I have been down on my knees praying that better days are ahead, that we take the lessons from these challenging and uncomfortable days and make lasting changes.

Have a safe and good day my friends. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

  1. Be safe...Your post was wise..X

  2. Well said. Years ago I quit FB (they don't make it easy!) and haven't been on any social media for so many reasons. Too much anger from people who disagree with your views. I'm so sad for our country.

  3. Your post really tells it like it is. As the Dutchess commented above, your post is wise. Wise beyond words. God bless you, God bless us all!!!!

  4. I just watched a video on Twitter of protestors joining a man singing "Lean On Me" and holding their phone lights aloft in front of the WH. It was a beautiful thing and made me think, maybe, just maybe, we may work our way out of this damned mess.

Thank you for coming to visit Pine Cones and Acorns. Your comments are greatly appreciated. Although I try to come to visit every blog that comments sometimes I just do not get the chance, but I do try to comment here.
