Super easy, 3 ingredient, homemade cinnamon Christmas ornaments. A great DIY craft to make with your kids or grandkids.

Cinnamon Applesauce Ornaments

Good morning friends! Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, can you believe the longest, slowest year is fast approaching it's end? Celebrations are looking a lot different this year but we are still celebrating, my husband and I,  with a tiny turkey and all the fixings(enough for a small army) with my family on Zoom. I am sure by now your groceries are purchased, your meal is planned, there are pies in the oven or already cooling and the table is set, so I will not offer any advice about Thanksgiving. Instead I am going to share my homemade cinnamon ornaments.

Cinnamon Applesauce Ornaments

This is a SUPER EASY 3 Ingredient Cinnamon Ornament recipe, so if you get bored with football or have kids to keep busy this weekend you can make a batch of this dough and cut out ornaments or gift tags. The best news, you do not even have to bake them if you don't want to!

3 Ingredient Cinnamon Ornaments

1 cup ground cinnamon

3/4 cup of applesauce

3 tablespoons of white glue

Cinnamon ornaments

Line a cookies sheet with parchment paper, set aside. Place all of the ingredients in a mixing bowl, mix well with a spatula. Once mixed, gather the dough into a ball and knead a few times. Then sprinkle your work surface and rolling pin with cinnamon and roll the dough to 1/4" thickness.

Cut out your favorite shapes with cookie cutters and place them on the parchment lined cookie sheet. Then gather the dough scraps into a ball and roll out again, cut more shapes. Repeat the process until all of the dough is used.

Take a skewer or a straw and poke a hole in the ornaments.

At this point you can leave the ornaments to air dry, this takes about 24-48 hours. Turn them over every once in awhile and flip them as well. Or you can bake them in the oven in a pre-heated 200 degree oven for about 2 hours.

Once the cookie ornaments are cooled from baking or dried after 48 hours, cute pieces of string or decorative twine to desired length, tie the two ends in a knot and hang them on your tree, or use them in garland or on packages.

Note: I baked mine because I was impatient and they did shrink a little and some of the gingerbread men curled a little bit.

Have a very Happy Thanksgiving, be safe! And if you make some ornaments be sure to let me know, I would love to see them!

  1. How adorable these are! I'd have never thought applesauce would be an ingredient for these. You always come up with the best food ideas every day of the year. Thank you for that. Happy Thanksgiving, my friend!
